On April the 9th 2022, we opened our purpose built new showroom still at the same address just across the carpark. We have upgraded the existing solar panels and added insulation and natural lighting. All you favourite manufactures are still all on show along with the same discount rates.
Over the past four decades Chelford Fabrics has proven time after time to be the market leader in soft furnishings, offering a vast selection of current and top quality fabrics backed up with our own professional tailor making service.
As fashions and colours have changed over the years the choice we offer to our customers has always tried to stay one step ahead of the market, by using our close contacts with all the leading manufactures we have been able to introduce many new fabrics even before the official trade launches.
Chelford Fabrics offer a range of services from tailor made curtain and blinds to a 14-day fast track service at no extra cost. We also offer a fitting and measuring service for residential and commercial purposes.
Chelford Fabrics of Harpenden stock a large range of furniture including dinning suites, sofas, armchairs and tables. There is also a range of designer lamps, house hold accessories and unique gifts available from both Chelford stores.

Chelford Fabrics History
Chelford Fabrics is a family run business that first started to trade in Chantry Road, Kempston, Bedfordshire back in 1980. Life first started out as a wholesale operation but as demand grew and more manufactures wished for us to sell their products, Chelford Fabrics became the soft furnishing retailer we know today. After many successful years in Kempston a move to much bigger premises was needed, Fenlake Road on the other side of Bedford was then our home up to 1989 when again the need for more space lead us to the busy village of Gamlingay in Cambridgeshire.
It became apparent that another site was needed so in September 1996 a new showroom was opened in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. This unique site gave the opportunity to offer even greater services to our customers with parking for 70 plus cars and 2 floors of unrivalled choice, with fabric displays and high quality furniture.
In 2016,we decided to close the store in Gamlingay and consolidate the business out of the bigger showroom in Harpenden.
9th April 2022 our brand new showroom opened right next door to the old Harpenden building, offering the same quality fabrics as before.
We have also have dedicated disabled parking and a fast charging point for your eclectic cars.
Chelford in the local community
Chelford Fabrics are proud to continue to be a key sponsor of Harpenden Cricket Club, and Harpenden rugby club.
Harpenden Cricket Club is a successful ECB “Club Mark” club, especially so in 2017 with 3 of the 6 Saturday sides winning their respective leagues. It also boasts one of the strongest junior sections for boys and girls consisting of 13 teams. The 2021 season saw HCC top the premier league. Both Directors still when work permits turn out for HCC. The 2021 season also saw the 1st team top the premier league.
Harpenden rugby club has a long standing relationship with Chelford Fabrics, our founder the late Bob Bashford was a former 1st team captain, and moderniser in training methods from his time there during the Seventies. The 2021 season saw the 1st team promoted to their highest league in their history.
